I am 14 years old and I was wondering any of you all out there knew any baseball drills that I could work on myself. I am a Shortstop and I have a raquet ball and a shed. and a bat and a pitch back. Of course, I have baseballs.

When I was young I would throw a ball off the concrete foundation of my house to get work on fielding grounders and it helps with throwing as well. The higher you throw the ball, you will get more short hop type grounders and the lower you throw it, you will get more rolling ground balls. It helped me alot with my hands and fielding and also builds up arm strength. If you don’t have a wall to throw the ball off of. Just set the pitch back up to where its angled down so when you throw the ball off of it, it will return grounders back. Those are harder to hit, but help with your throwing accuracy too. Start about 30 or 40 feet away to get a good feel and then move up gradually as you gain confidence. This will help you with your hand eye coordination and reaction time. Don’t get to close to fast or you will get hit in the face and you will blame me for it. LOL!!! It will help you though and if you get hit a couple of times that kind of stuff happens and it will teach you not to be scared of the ball. When fielding grounders just remember to stay down. Keep your glove on the ground as the ball approaches you and come up with the ball accordingly. If the ball stays down it will go in your glove. If it comes up, stay in front of the ball and bring your glove up with it. If it doesn’t go in your glove it will hit you in the stomach and then you can still make the play. You can’t make the play if the ball gets past you. And remember to move side to side too working on back hands and stuff. Also, work on your feet work, when you field the ball. When you catch the ball work on pivoting and throwing the ball and then get back in position to field the next one. The more you practice the better you will get. Good Luck.
