i play baseball so i may be a little off, but the principles are the same.
1.) Defense is more important than offense. You could simply throw a softball at a wall and practice good form receiving the ground ball.
2.) Condition. People say that Baseball and Softball are wimpy sports. They couldn’t be more wrong. You need to do something, anything to get in better shape. Also, work on improving your reaction time. There are various exercises at : http://www.bangor.ac.uk/~mas009/neurogym/reaction.htm
3.) Hit off of the tee. You will need to gain basic mechanics in hitting, and a tee will help muscle memory. You should first hit into a net and eventually take that net away and hit on the field. Depending on where the tee is set up relative to your place in the batters box, you will be able to gauge whether or not you are doing things correctly based on where the ball goes.
Hope this helps.
simply throw a softball at a brick wall and it will bounce back to you
It depends on what position you want to play. If you want to be a fielder, throw the ball high up in the air and catch the ball. That’s practice for catching fly balls. If your a catcher, do the same thing so you can get a good grip on the ball. If your a pitcher, its difficult to practice by yourself unless you buy a pitching zone net. To practice, I suggest you make fast swinging motions with your arm to loosen it up for the baseball season.
