I am coaching my daughter’s softball team. I have played softball for years but would like to entertain your ideas on practice ideas to keep the girls attention. Thanks!

star drill
catch to 3rd
3rd to 1st
1st to second
second to short
short to catch
when the girls catch it
you could make it mroe fun by
like having them say their favorite food color book music etc.
throwing drills
girls get on their knee (no glove)
wrist flick
accel to more of a throw still no glove
stand up and do the t formation
then full throw
fun base running relay
great for getting the feel of running the bases
get a group of girls at home and another group at second
the first girl at each base run the entire diamond
the first group to be done wins
make it more interesting make sure they tag the base
if they dont make them run again
soft toss batting
better than a t and easier than the full pitching
get two lines
hit some grounders and pops in between
get them in the habit of calling the ball
sort of like monkey in the middle great throwing drill
girl in the middle and one at each end
end girl starts off with ball throws to middle
middle catches quickly turns but positions and
gets a good stance to correctly throw the ball
to the other end
hope i helped
We love softball at our house. My two girls have been playing since a young age, they are teens now and still playing. In younger years, my husband and I found that setting up 3 or 4 practice stations on the field…(you need some parent help) works well. Break the girls up into groups and they rotate from station to station.
Stations:
Hit off the tee station (batting stance)
Catch pop fly (getting under the ball)
Grounders (glove in the dirt)
Throwing from base to base (step to target)
Sliding (most fun of all)
Have fun with it.
