Softball practice/running routine?
ok ive been playing softball since kindergarden and im planning on trying out for the team at my school in the spring. im pretty good at it but im not the best. how often should i practice? how long should i do things? ex. 20 min of catching, 30 min of batting, etc.
also, i wanna improve in running. it takes me about 10 minutes to run the mile at school and im still completely out of breath. how do i run and not be out of breath after but still get a good time? im aiming for 7-9 minutes for a mile
thxx!!

First of all plan what you want to do for the day and how many hours do you intend to practice. There would be days that you will focus on defense and the others on offense but if you want everything equal base it on how many hours you plan to practice for. When you practice make sure all the skills are there. Fielding, batting and baserunning. I would recommend to have time for conditioning as well. alot 15-20mins for conditioning drills.
As for running drills, fortunately for softball we don’t need to run a mile in a game. to improve on your running. try running in sprints. do several sprints from home to first at 100% effort and have ample rests in between, after every sprints rest for a minute. do 8-10 sprints. you can also run from home to home at 100% but rest for around 2-3mins. do this for 5 sets. This is what you call interval training. do this 3 times a week for 8 weeks..you’ll see how your stamina improves.
I don’t know too much about the softball, the running though I may be able to help you with. You will be out of breath the first times you do it. You should probably consider practicing it for a while. The increase in speed will come in time. One suggestion would be to hydrate yourself. drink plenty of water. Do that around 1hr-30min. before you run. Don’t eat or drink too much before you run or else you will cramp up really bad. Hope I helped. Good luck with softball.
